Richmond

Richmond Bridge

We finally dragged ourselves away from the wonderful fishing in Coles Bay and moved on a little further to Richmond It's a lovely little touritsty town just outside Hobart. It's a bit like Handorf in SA or Maldon in Vic-quaint shops, galleries and cafes, a narrow main street with hordes of tourists and lovely old homes. Richmond boasts the oldest stone bridge in Australia built by convicts in the early 1800s, so that's an easy spot to run a tourist or two over!

It was a grey drizzly day as we drove here, so I think we missed some beautiful scenery along the coast on the way here. We might go back a hundred ks or so on a nice day with our camera. It's amazing here in Tassie-we filed the car 9 days ago, did a couple of drives, moved on to here, shopped in Sorell yesterday and still have fuel in tank. Crossing the Nullabor we need to fill after 5 hours driving!

Richmond is surrounded by orchards, vineyards and a big company Houston Farms seems to own huge areas of the valley where they grow salad leaves (for mesclun mixes) and I saw lots of fennel growing too. It's all very beautiful.

It was suggested by our last neighbours in Coles Bay that the park here "looked a bit run down from the road", but we decided to try it out anyway. It's a bit overgrown and a bit dusty, BUT the sites are quite large and level, our en suite is sparkling clean and the HEATED swimming pool is too. Laundry is only $2 a load! We may stay a week here as Friday is the start of a long weekend here in Tasmania.

We really enjoyed shopping in Sorell yesterday as we were close to out of food and today I'm having a haircut.
